Flatlands is a neighborhood in Brooklyn and was one of the original five Dutch towns on Long Island. The British renamed the area Flatlands after they took the land from the Dutch in 1664. This was largely a farming community, dependent on tobacco, corn, squash, and beans, as well as the harvest of oysters and clams. Flatlands was an instrumental place in American history. It is here that the Wyckoff House Museum is found.
