A visit in your Car Rental to New York City is not complete unless you visit the legendary Central Park. Central Park spans two and a half miles from 59th Street to 110th Street and half a mile from Fifth Avenue to Eighth Avenue. The park is home to numerous restaurants, playgrounds, the Metropolitan Museum, the Central Park Zoo, and Wollman Rink. The internal "loop" (known officially as Park Drive) is approximately 6 miles around and is closed to traffic on weekdays from 10am-3pm and 7pm - 10pm, and from Friday night at 7pm until Monday morning at 6am so if you are planning on visiting during these hours you may decide to leave your Car Rental in New York City and take a stroll by foot. There are an abundance of things to do and see at Central Park. Here are only a few of the features you may want to check out on your visit:

Cedar Hill – 76th-79th Street

Cedar Hill is a classic pastoral landscape, to many people synonymous with the most traditional of Park activities: picnicking, reading, and sunbathing. Cedar Hill rolls softly down to a shallow green valley. The name comes from the red cedars on its crest, but several other varieties of evergreen dot the hill as well. At the southern border is Glade Arch, a stone archway that originally supported carriage traffic to Fifth Avenue. In spring, a variety of flowering bulbs and perennials crowd the slopes on either side of the pathway under the arch. To the north is the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Central Park Zoo & Children's Zoo – 63rd & 65th Street

Alice holds court perched on a giant mushroom, reaching toward a pocket watch held by the March Hare, the host of the book's zany tea party. Her serene calm contrasts sharply with the manic expression of the nearby Mad Hatter, who appears poised to launch one of his nonsensical riddles. Crowding the edge of a smaller mushroom and nibbling on a tea goodie, is the timid dormouse who seems ready to flee any impending insult.

The Carousel – 65th Street

Shaded by a grove of stately American elms lays a black-and-white mosaic set in the pathway near its west entrance where you will find a reproduction of a mosaic from Pompeii-- fashioned by Italian craftsmen and given as a gift from Naples, Italy. Its single word IMAGINE, the title of a popular John Lennon song, is the only specific tribute to the musician within the beautifully maintained park landscape. Take time out from driving around in your car rental in New York City and take a stroll down the hill past a bronze plaque that lists the 121 countries endorsing Strawberry Fields as a Garden of Peace. The path is a loop that brings you back to the mosaic past one of the most beautiful landscapes in the Park.
